Biography

Founded in 2002, Sphere has remained a steadfast force in the death metal underground, blending unrelenting aggression with a dedication to the genre’s old-school roots. Emerging from Poland’s extreme metal scene, the band quickly gained recognition for its brutal, uncompromising sound.

Following early lineup changes, Sphere released its first demo, Spiritual Dope, in 2004, earning acclaim within the underground community. Building on this momentum, the band entered ZED Studio in 2006 to record its debut full-length album, Damned Souls Rituals, under the guidance of producer Tomek Zalewski. Released on January 20, 2007, via Empire Records, the album resonated strongly with fans and sold nearly 5,000 copies. Sphere’s growing reputation saw them perform at Metalmania 2007, one of Europe’s premier metal festivals, and share stages with genre heavyweights such as Vital Remains and Master.

In 2010, the band returned to ZED Studio to record Homo Hereticus, an album that stayed true to death metal’s brutal essence while incorporating modern elements and massive grooves. Marking a natural evolution in their sound, the record was followed by an extensive run of live performances, including shows with Cannibal Corpse and a tour across Northern Ireland, further cementing Sphere’s presence in the international scene.

Their third album, Mindless Mass, was recorded at Heinrich House and released in 2015 through Deformeathing Production. Darker and more intense, the album solidified Sphere’s reputation as a relentless live act. Over the next two years, the band played 32 shows in support of the release, performing alongside extreme metal powerhouses such as Cattle Decapitation, Disgorge, Cryptopsy, Obituary, and Hour of Penance.

After a seven-year hiatus, Sphere made a triumphant return in 2021 with a reinvigorated lineup and entered Janos Studio to record their fourth album, Blood Era. Released on May 6, 2022, via Deformeathing Production, the album featured guest performances from Damien Boynton (Desolation, Vital Remains) and Dave Suzuki (Vital Remains, Churchburn), reuniting musicians who had last collaborated at Metalmania 2007. The album was met with widespread acclaim, receiving an average critical score exceeding 85%, and marked a new era for the band.

Supporting Blood Era, Sphere embarked on an extensive tour, performing at major festivals such as Gothoom Festival (Slovakia), Tynecki Mazec (Czechia), Siekiera Fest, and Summer Dying Loud (Poland). Sharing stages with Wolfheart, Left to Die (ex-Death), and Incantation, the band further cemented its legacy within the death metal world.

In 2024, Sphere recorded and released its latest album, Inferno, a concept-driven successor to Blood Era. Inspired by Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy, the album explored the nine circles of hell, pushing the band’s sound into even darker and more intense territories while remaining firmly rooted in the foundations of death metal. Inferno featured prominent guest appearances from Dallas Toler-Wade (ex-Nile, Narcotic Wasteland) and Sven de Caluwe (Aborted, Coffin Feeder), further cementing its impact within the extreme metal scene.

With a legacy built on uncompromising brutality and a relentless commitment to their craft, Sphere continues to expand the boundaries of extreme metal while honoring the genre’s most essential traditions.
